STREET.jpg (50729 bytes)

Figuerola is located at the midday side of the Miramar mountain range, next to the Tossal Gros. Its term includes the Miramar nucleus.

Many farmers have taken advantage of the term unevenness, starting from the terraces that come down until the Alt Camp plain.

The hazels, together with the cereals and the vine, are the more important crops. The lands without farming are full of forests and thickets.

The village of Figuerola is at 480 metres high, and dominates all the Alt Camp plain from its privileged location.

The village took form around the Sant Jaume church. The small streets save the unevenness and sometimes offer an open landscape to the region.

It is possible to find fountains on the streets: Font del Portal, Font del Viudet, etc.

The houses have a simple architecture and have preserved the forms of the popular architecture of the zone. The buildings of the XVIII century predominate as it was a period of important stimulus for the village.

MONUMENTS AND PLACES OF INTEREST

SANT JAUME'S CHURCH.jpg (52425 bytes)   SANT JAUME'S CHURCH - This building headlines and prints its mark to all the village, emphasized by the proportions and the austerity of the neoclassic style. The church has a latin cross ground plan and the crossing is covered with a dome. The façane counts with neoclassic elements, specially at the main door decoration. At the left side of the façane the bell tower of crossed floor developers in two octagonal overlapping towers. On the back side of the church some of the ancient Romanesque building elements have been preserved, which first written new dates from the 29th November 1194.

HIKING TO MIRAMAR - The village is placed under the shelter of the Miramar mountain range, with the look glanced briefly at the sea. Behind the village we can go to the Miramar addition. An excursion through the forest will let us arrive to this village where we can enjoy of an exceptional view, surrounded by forests and nature

Following the main street, the Solar Street, we will arrive to the Font del Viudet (Viudet fountain), where we will find an asphalted way. If we take this path we will be initiating our excursion to Miramar.

MIRAMAR.jpg (87101 bytes)   When we find the first intersection, we will follow the left path. We will reach the main track that will lead us to Miramar. After a strong turn with an ascent towards the right, we will leave the left way which looks like going straight on to Miramar but we will follow the other one. At the next intersection we will take the left way that goes down, and we will get into the forest that will lead us again to Miramar. The right way follows the neck that arrives to Prenafeta.

After the last climb we will pass next to the Miramar cemetery and then to the village. When we arrive up there we will find this way was worthwhile. The Romanesque church we shall see is dedicated to Saint Mateu.

Making use of our location we can arrive to the fountain under the way that leads to the antenna. We way admire the sight over the Camp de Tarragona and the sea, where even in bright days we can see the boats that are waiting to come into the Tarragona's port.

Finished our journey, we can follow the main way from Miramar that goes to the Coll de Lilla.
